Our community does not recycle and our class has realized how bad it is to burn garbage. We have made a deal with the airline company to help us ship out our recyclables. The EPA's and Learning Center students have created a Community Awareness Club. We have attached posters on black superstore bags to encourage all students to recycle and have placed a bag in each classroom. We go around our school twice a week (sometimes more) to collect, sort and return to the refundable depot. The monies raised will go to our school on behalf of the Learning Center student. We are also working on a coloring book to help learn about the Three R's.

Our recycling program is up and rolling again, and students are needing reminders on how they can use our various recycling bins, especially in regards to the waste generated by our hot lunch program. We will also be letting them know that it is in fact waste reduction week. Our composting program is currently on hold for various reasons, in part related to the fact that we are an urban school, but we'll likely be setting this up again too come November when we have a new building with a rooftop garden. |
